Wendi Moldthan brings 30 years of experience in public safety and 16 years as a registered nurse, with a career marked by dedication to firefighter health, safety, and professional development. She currently serves as the Assistant Chief of Training for the District Fire Department (formerly Reedy Creek Fire Department), and the director of their peer support team.
Chief Moldthan is a Registered Nurse, State of Florida Certified Paramedic, Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor III, National Board-Certified Health and Safety Officer, and a Chief Fire Officer Candidate through the Center for Public Safety Excellence. Academically, she has earned a Bachelor’s in Nursing and a Master’s in Public Safety Administration and Homeland Security, both summa cum laude. She also holds certifications in paralegal studies, legal nurse consulting, and employment law.
Chief Moldthan’s career highlights include representing Florida on the USAR Task Force 4 (including deployment to Hurricane Katrina), serving on RCFD’s special operations team, and as an adjunct professor at Seminole State College. Most recently, she was Co-Chair for the Central Florida Fire Rescue Behavioral Health Collaborative where peer support coordinators from across the region come together to exchange resources, share training opportunities, and remain informed about statewide developments.
Chief Moldthan is honored to serve as the Statewide Peer Coordinator for the Florida Firefighters Safety and Health Collaborative (FFSHC). In this role, she collaborates with industry leaders and related agencies to facilitate professional standards, diversified training opportunities, deployments, and other related activities. Chief Moldthan is deeply committed to leading efforts that expand mental health and peer support initiatives for first responders throughout Florida and, ultimately, across the nation.
Public speaking engagements for Chief Moldthan include presentations at area fire departments, the 2022 Friends for Life National Diabetes Conference, the Capehart Foundation (dedicated to ending teen suicide), Southern Illinois University, Rock Canyon High School in Colorado, Grossmont College and the San Diego Unified School District, suicide prevention nonprofit organizations, and grief support groups. She received the District Fire Department Fire Chief’s Medal in 2024.
